Survey My City

Jenna Freimuth Maps Minneapolis

Can you bike and hold a cup of coffee at the same time?

Yeah, Jenna Freimuth can’t do that very well, either.

But that doesn’t stop her from trying (even when she’s downtown). The freelance illustrator has been traversing Minneapolis by bike since 2010, and shares her view of the city in this original work.

It’s safe to say the Uptown neighborhood has stolen Freimuth’s heart. In fact, between the plethora of bike paths (she’s got a single-speed beachcomber with a rusty basket), coffee shops and “luscious” green spaces, she’s pretty enamored with Minneapolis in general.

“I love the fact that I can sit by Lake of the Isles and not know the city is behind me,” Freimuth said. “I haven’t lived in a big city before, but I can imagine not every city has that quality about it.”

Freimuth always wanted to be an artist growing up, and made the move to Uptown when she decided to pursue illustration full-time. As a freelancer working from home (with only her cat, Mrs. Featherbottom, to keep her company), Freimuth wanted to feel like she was still in the middle of everything.

“It’s really great to step outside my door and there’s commotion, coffee shops and quick errands I can do,” Freimuth said. “There’s something about having coffee in your hand that’s like, ‘Get work done.’”

Luckily the perfect cup is never too far from her door.
