The Detroit Mercantile Co. makes its home in a century-old fire department building in the city’s historic Eastern Market. With such a provenance, you might expect to be greeted by a Dalmatian, but this shop is anything but predictable.

A modern twist on the turn-of-the-century general store is the shop’s eclectic collection of new and vintage items, overseen by Chauncey, a 5-year-old French bulldog with a welcoming face and boisterous personality.

Chauncey is often on hand, helping guests enjoy their shopping experience.  When guests can’t decide what to purchase, he lends a helpful paw.
