The duo behind Blood & Sand, a members-only dining club, plans open a new lunch spot that’s already one of the most buzzed about restaurants in St. Louis.
Good news: No membership required.
Owners Adam Frager and TJ Vytlacil are set to show the Gateway to the West just how they think lunch should be done by taking over the dramatic glass building in the Citygarden and transforming it into Death in the Afternoon.
Frager and Vytlacil saw lunch as an overlooked, secondary thought for many restaurants. The friends wanted to “flip the switch” and create a quality dining experience in a beautiful part of town — an urban oasis downtown workers could escape to during the workday.
The new lunch spot will emphasize a menu that’s affordable and approachable, while maintaining the same quality standards set at Blood & Sand. While Death in the Afternoon will depart from Blood & Sand’s members-only policy, Frager said they still want to cultivate the same depth of relationships with future customers and create the same soulful experience.
The lunch-focused menu is still in the works, but is set to include familiar foods such as hotdogs and hamburgers, as well as snacks such as hummus, fried tofu and falafel.
If Blood & Sand’s quick success is any indication, Death in the Afternoon is guaranteed to become a go-to lunchtime favorite in no time.
It’s all about showcasing the talent and “giving them an opportunity to grow their talent and express creativity.”
