Cronut Craze

It’s fair to say the light, flaky deliciousness
of the cronut has caused a media firestorm and a cult-like following since chef
Dominique Ansel began selling the pastry at his New York bakery in May. While
Ansel patented the term “cronut” to describe the croissant-like dough he fries,
sugars, glazes and fills with cream, it hasn’t stopped a deluge a copy cats around
the country (and the world) from creating their own versions with names like
croughnut, dossant and crognet. After all, the New Yorkers shouldn’t be the
only ones that get to enjoy this pastry delight.

One tip: If the line that snakes out of Ansel’s
bakery every morning is any indication, set your alarm and get to one of the
bakeries or shops listed below early.
